A few years back, we mostly saw the latest Android updates roll out to mid-range and flagship devices. Most of those with entry level and affordable devices never got and never expected such updates and if these users wanted the latest version of update, they had to buy the latest devices that come with the updated OS pre-installed.

HMD Global is one of the companies that has been pushing the latest OS updates to its affordable devices. The company has been doing this ever since it brought back the Nokia brand to the smartphone space. One of the key selling points by the company is the roll out of timely OS updates and the company guarantees at least 2 major OS updates for each Android device it brings to the market.

To keep its word, HMD Global has just pushed Android 10 (Go Edition) update to one of its entry level devices, the Nokia 1 from 2018. This phone was launched with Android Oreo (Go Edition) back in 2018 and we were expecting it to get this update at some point.

Go Edition is a stripped-down version of Android that is meant for entry level devices like the Nokia 1. It runs smoothly on devices with entry level hardware and it takes less space compared to the full version of Android. The OS also comes with stripped down version of popular Google apps including Google Go, YouTube Go etc.

This update is currently rolling out to users in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. Users in other countries will be getting it in the coming weeks.
