Out of all the smartphone manufacturers with a presence in Kenya, Huawei has been one of the most active this year. We have already seen the Huawei Nova 5T, Nova 7i, Huawei Y7p, and the Huawei Y6s and there are more to come including the P series devices.

Before we get to the P series devices, the company has announced that the Huawei Y6p and the Y8p will be coming to Kenya. The two devices will join the Huawei Y7p that has been in the country for a few weeks now.

“The Huawei Y series is designed to make premium features accessible to more users,” the company said in a statement. Y series devices are mostly made for those who want good specifications on their phones without spending so much money on a single device.

    The Huawei Y8p

The Huawei Y8p is the more expensive of the two and comes with a Triple camera setup made up of a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Huawei says the phone’s capability to take good shots in low light environments is what truly makes it stand out. This is all talk and actual real-world use is what will determine if the phone is any good or not. For selfies it has a 16MP selfie camera that is sufficient.

This phone has a 6.3-inch 1080p OLED display and is powered by the Kirin 710F processor. This is paired with 4 or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. It comes with Android 10 preinstalled and as expected, no Google services are available on it. This will be challenging but those who are curious on how to get apps if you have no Google Play on your phone, I did a post on that which you can check down below.

Take a look at some of the other Huawei Y8p specifications.

    Display: 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels

    RAM: 4 /6GB

    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 4.000 mAh battery
Android:  Android 10.0; EMUI 10.1, no Google Play

    The Huawei Y6p

This is the second Y6 device we are seeing in Kenya this year. One of its unique selling points is the 5,000 mAh battery that should easily last you an entire day or even two. This battery according to Huawei can also act as a power bank that charges other devices. This will be appealing to some people especially those who are always carrying two phones and may not want to walk around with a power bank.

Here are some Huawei Y6p specifications.

    Display: 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels
    Processor:  MediaTek Helio P22
    RAM: 3 /4GB

    Cameras: Triple: 13MP + 5MP + 2MP, 8 MP front-facing camera

Battery: 5.000 mAh battery (fast charging available on pro model)

Huawei has not shared the details of when these phones will be available in Kenya and their prices but that should be soon since pre-orders will start in the coming week.
