Samsung Will Only Provide Quarterly Security Updates to Galaxy S8 Series Moving Forward

GalaxyS8 Dual Orchidgrey

Slightly over three years ago, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 then Galaxy S series flagship device of the year. After three years of monthly security updates, Samsung is now opting for quarterly updates.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will now receive critical security fixes after three months which is a sign of a near no-update future. The two received their last major software upgrade to Pie in April last year, several months after the software had been released by Google.

The two join several Galaxy A series devices including the recently announced Galaxy A20s, Galaxy A30s, Galaxy A50s, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A70s, and Galaxy A71 among others. You can check where your device lies in the list provided here.

However, one notable 2017 device still listed under Samsung’s monthly security updates is the Galaxy Note 8.
