POCO, now a standalone brand, has officially announced its first device. The company announced the POCO X2 in India, one of Xiaomi’s primary markets. Despite the brand being a spin-off from Xiaomi, there are little to no differences between the new Poco device and Xiaomi’s Redmi K30 announced in China towards the end of 2019.

The Poco X2 sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD display. To AMOLED fans, sorry, but the high refresh rates of 120Hz should compensate for that. The front of the device has a dual selfie camera with a 20MP lens and a 2MP portrait lens.

For photography needs, the phone is equipped with a quad-camera setup composed of Sony’s 64MP IMX 686 ( f/1.89) primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens ( f/2.2, 120-degree FOV), a 2MP Super Macro Lens ( f/2.4), and a 2MP depth sensor (f/2.4).

On the software side, Poco X2 comes with MIUI 11 out of the box with Poco Launcher pre-installed.

The real power of the device lies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730g processor working in tow with either 6 or 8GB of memory. The phone features UFS 2.1 type of storage with either 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB options. On top of that, there is still a microSD card slot if you want to throw more storage at it.

The battery is a 4500mAh battery, which supports 27W fast charging. Luckily enough, POCO includes a 27W charger out of the box.

Poco X2 Price

The base model starts at Rs. 15,999(~Ksh 22,500) in India, which has 6GB of memory paired with 64GB of onboard storage. The high-end model with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM is priced at Rs. 19,999(~Ksh 28,100).

It’s not clear whether POCO X2 will be available locally since Xiaomi already alerted its offline retailers to treat Poco as a competitor after the spin-off. However, that doesn’t mean third parties won’t be able to bring it in Kenya – it sure will be available locally, just like many other devices that have been brought in Kenya with no presence of the company regionally.
