Google has started testing floating conversations, a feature that is part of a new API for “Bubbles.” What this API does is it enables you to have messages and other functions floating on top of your display inside a bubble. This works similarly to Facebook Messenger Chat heads.

Google had announced this feature at Google I/O 2019 and was supposed to ship inside Android 10. That changed later when the company decided to only include the API in Android 10 for developers to start working on it to bring full support in Android 11.

According to recent reports, the company is now working on this API. The test is only going on in Google’s messaging app – Android Messages. The nerdy guys at XDA have already managed to enable the feature, and from the photos shared, this is quite an impressive feature.

You will be able to see a floating bubble of messages received, which shows you a sneak peek of the message details. Tapping on it will expand it to a window that will enable you to see the usual layout typically found in the app. You can be able to see the message thread, quick replies, among others.

The feature is still under testing and Google has not announced an official rollout yet.
