After successful delivery of their promise, Google is finally pulling out on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL software update cycle. This is no surprise since these devices have already been covered under the promised timeline. Google Pixel and Pixel XL were the first devices launched by the company in 2016 so they have been on the market for three years.

It has been a nice ride for owners of these devices with two years of guaranteed Android version updates and three years of security updates. Google even delivered some other updates out of goodwill.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL were to receive Android updates up to Android 9.0 Pie, and it was surprising that the company even decided to serve the devices with Android 10 as well.

It is now over three years since the devices launched, and Google is preparing one last update before leaving the devices in the cold.

As the rest of the Pixel family received the November security updates, the Pixel and Pixel XL were left out. However, Google has not pulled out yet. In response to The Verge, the company says it will provide a final December update that will “encapsulate a variety of updates.”
