Vivo was to officially start operations in Kenya a couple of months ago after aborting the plan to do so over a year ago. The company was to launch its products in the country but that never happened for reasons known to them. There was no official communication as to why it did not start operations and when we should expect it to do so.

Well, if you have been waiting, the wait is finally over as Vivo phones are officially available in retail stores in Kenya. The company through its social media pages has announced the availability of the Vivo Y15 smartphone.

Finally Y15 is in shops near you at KES 21999, with great prizes to be won for the first 300 buyers. Buy, get a scratch card and stand a chance of winning:
    1. Cash back
    2. Half price offer for 2nd device purchased

As seen above, the phone is available for Ksh 21,999, not the cheapest but it is right there with devices from competitors such as the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. Vivo has not listed the shops where you can get this phone and they are not listed on e-commerce platforms like Jumia either so you will have to find one yourself.

The Vivo Y15 is an impressive smartphone with a 5,000 mAh battery and I am keen to see how it performs locally. Vivo has an uphill battle if it wants to win over this market. Its sister company, OPPO, has been operating locally for a number of years but is still not a household name. Yes, people know about its smartphones but it does not sell by the numbers as its competitors. Either way, it is always a good thing to see more players enter the market as that means we have more option to choose from.

Vivo hasn’t shared its clear strategy for this market but I don’t expect anything revolutionary, probably just bring the phones and make sure people know about them and hopefully sell a lot of them. Even though Vivo is yet to confirm anything, I expect most of its other smartphones to launch in Kenya depending on how the Y15 performs. This is the phone that the company has been teasing heavily through social media.

Let’s looks at some of the key specifications of the Vivo Y15.
