Google Launches Gallery Go, a Minimalistic Google Photos Alternative

Gallery Go

Gallery Go

Google yesterday launched its new lite app for Google Photos dubbed Gallery Go. Gallery Go is aimed to work best, even in areas of poor connectivity. More so, the app is only 10MB hence uses minimum storage space and is also engineered to work offline unlike Photos.

Gallery Go still relies on machine learning technology to organize your photos and also includes photo editing features available in the main Photos app.  You may experience a few hiccups though, like the lack of face grouping feature, which I experienced with the new app although Google states the feature has not yet arrived in all countries. The app is targeted at developing countries like Kenya and is just like any other Lite app.

Gallery Go is already available in Kenya via Google Playstore and requires one to have a device running at least Android 8.1 Oreo or newer versions.

Lite apps have become the new trend for mobilizing users in developing countries to be able to use apps that rather require a stable and reliable internet connection which has proven as the major problem to getting the numbers in these countries.

Facebook already has Lite versions of almost all of its apps ranging from Facebook’s main social media app to Instagram. Spotify has been the latest company to launch its lite app which was unveiled early this month.
