Unveiled at MWC 2019, the Nokia 4.2 has finally made its way to Kenya. HMD Global has announced that this phone is available in retail stores in Kenya for Ksh 18,500. The Nokia 4.2 is one of the 5 smartphones unveiled at MWC by HMD Global with the other ones being the Nokia 210, Nokia 1 Plus, Nokia 3.2 and the mighty Nokia 9 PureView.

The Nokia 1 is already in retail stores in Kenya and now its turn for the Nokia 4.2 to shine.

‘’Our first ever Nokia 4.2 has a pleasingly premium look and feel, and is designed to offer the latest smartphone innovations at a truly accessible price. With this phone, our customers can do everything a flagship smartphone can do at a relatively affordable price,’’ said Mark Misumi, HMD Global’s Business Manager East Africa. I agree with what he says here, the Nokia 4.2 looks and feel really good.

Just like all the other new smartphones from HMD Global, the Nokia 4.2 is an Android One phone and this means that it comes with a pure version of Android. This means no bloatware or unnecessary pre-installed applications that you may not even use. The phone comes with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box but is guaranteed to get the next two OS updates including Android Q and R. It is also scheduled to get monthly security patches from Google.

The Nokia 4.2 looks like most of the recent Nokia smartphones but there are some subtle design changes the company has implemented to differentiate this phone. It actually looks slightly different and having seen one, I have to say I am impressed. One thing the company has done is include a dedicated Google Assistant button for easy access to Google’s digital assistant.

Below are some key specifications of the Nokia 4.2.

    Display Size: 5.71 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels

    Processor: Octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor

    RAM: 2/3GB

Storage Space: 16/32 GB, can be expanded to 400GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Adreno 505

    Android Version: Android 9.0 Pie

    Main Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP

    Selfie Camera: 8MP

    Battery: 3000 mAh battery

The Nokia 4.2 is now available in two colours, Black and Pink Sand, for Ksh18,500. The phone is available in Dual-Sim and in 3GB/32GB RAM/ROM variant.

I do not have a review unit but you can read my review of yet another smartphone from HMD Global, the Nokia 8.1.
