Huawei has today unveiled its latest smartphone into the country. This smartphone, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is currently available on pre-order through Jumia and through offline stores. You can learn more about this phone here.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 will be available on pre-order from today to February 7. Its recommended retail price will be Ksh 17,999. The company says those who want to pre-order this phone can do so through Jumia or through offline stores.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is the successor to the Y7 Prime 2018 and comes with upgraded cameras, a snapdragon processor and the Dewdrop notch. Compared with the Y7 Prime 2018, the Y7 Prime 2019 is a complete upgrade in my opinion. The Y7 Prime 2018 wasn’t that competitive but the company has gotten it right with the Y7 Prime 2019.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is the second smartphone from the company to be unveiled this year. It comes to the market less than three weeks after we saw the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. These two phones are available at different price points with the Mate 20 Pro being the high end one and the Y7 2019 being the affordable option.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 targets the younger generation as you can tell from its specifications. The dewdrop notch is to make it look different.  Speaking at the launch, Steven Li, Head of Eastern Africa Mobile, “HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 is made for today’s dynamic youth who are deeply engaged with the social media culture.  Given the rise of video-centric platforms, the HUAWEI Dewdrop Display—first debuted with the flagship HUAWEI Mate 20 Series—lends itself to great viewing experiences thanks to its top class screen-to-body ratio of 86.7 percent.”

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 captures the segment that was not specifically targeted by the Huawei Y9 2019 that I have been using for a couple of months. The phone is available in three different colour options of Aurora Blue, Coral red and Midnight black. The Coral red model is coming in during Valentine’s period and should be a perfect gift for your loved one.

Below are some of the key specifications of the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019.

    Display Size: 6.26 inches with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels, HD+

    Processor: Snapdragon 450 (Octa-core)

    RAM: 3GB

Storage Space: 32 GB, can be expanded to 512GB

    GPU: Adreno 506

Android Version: Android 8.1 Oreo With EMUI 8.2

    Main Camera: Dual: 13MP + 2MP

    Selfie Camera: 16MP

    Battery: 4000 mAh battery

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 will be available through Safaricom shops at a later date. The version available though Safaricom is the single SIM model.  All the other specifications are similar with the SIM slots numbers being the only differences.
