Nokia 3.1

One of HMD’s most recent smartphones, the Nokia 3.1, is finally available in Kenya. The phone is available for Ksh 15,999, in the same neighbourhood as the Infinix Hot 6 Pro, Tecno Camon X and Huawei Y7 Prime 2018.

The Nokia 3.1 is the successor to the Nokia 3 from last year and should offer a few upgrades to those who bought the first iteration last year. Just like the other Nokia smartphones we have seen recently, the Nokia 3.1 is part of the Android One program. This means that it should come with a pure version of Android with no bloatware and should get timely updates as they become available. This is not a big deal as all the new Nokia smartphones by HMD come with the purest form of Android and have always been the first devices to get the latest updates and security patches. The Nokia 3.1 is scheduled to receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, as guaranteed in the Android One programme.

The Nokia 3.1 is the cheapest smartphone from HMD with an 18:9 aspect ratio. This has been the trend the last 6 months and HMD wants to bring it to the lower price segment. Some other manufacturers such as Infinix and Tecno have already introduced this aspect ratio to even cheaper devices and HMD Global does not want to be left behind. I like how HMD is adapting to market need and this will help push the Nokia smartphones to a bigger audience.

Gopher Ogembo, Sales Business Manager – East Africa, HMD Global, said:

“Nokia 3 has been an extremely successful part of the Nokia smartphone line-up in Kenya. With so many people enjoying it every day, we’ve had a tremendous amount of positive feedback and a real motivation to refine our fans’ experience even further. We’ve made sure Nokia 3.1 delivers the perfect balance between power and design, so our customers do not need to compromise.”
