The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is the company’s latest flagship smartphone available in Kenya for Ksh 95,000 depending on where you get it from. I am currently reviewing the Galaxy S9+ and will have its full review in a couple of weeks. With that said, I thought it is a good idea to come up with two posts as we wait for the full review. The first post if this one that you are reading and it points out the five things I love about this phone and the second one will talk about the five things I hate about this phone.

    The Camera

From the get go, Samsung made sure that the camera is key thing it focuses on with the Galaxy S9+ and even the standard S9. The camera is the Galaxy S9+ is very good and even better than the one we saw on the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S8+. It even has variable aperture that lets you adjusts it to allow more or less light to reach the sensor depending on your environment.

If you shot in Auto mode all the time, you may not necessarily take advantage of the variable aperture as that is handled on your behalf. If you are an amateur or even pro photographer, you will be able to change the aperture size from F1.5 to F2.4 and vice versa depending on the light around you. Even if you are not a pro photographer, you can still show off this feature to your friends.

Besides the aperture, the cameras of the Galaxy S9+ are really good. The colours pop really well and they are very detailed. There are a few situations when there are instances of overexposure but nothing serious.

    The Display

If you have used any smartphone from Samsung, then you know that the company has one of the best displays out there. This is not any different with the Galaxy S9+, it has the same curved display with very thin bezels that will always stand out. The infinity display is just unmatched, it is a 6.2-inch super AMOLED one with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels.

This is a super AMOLED display so you know the colours are quite accurate. The blacks are really black and the other colours are vibrant too. We spend most times looking at the displays on our smartphones and I never get bored looking at the one on the S9+.

    Design

Even though the design of the Galaxy S9+ is not that different from that of the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 from last year, it is still an amazing design. It stands out from most of the other flagship smartphones on the market and one year down the line it is still fresh to look at, after all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Samsung made a very crucial change with the Galaxy S9 and S9+ by moving the fingerprint sensor. Previously, the fingerprint sensor was next to the camera but it is now below the camera. With it being there, users who had issues with touching the camera accidentally when they were trying to use the fingerprint sensor can breath as that problem is handled.

I got the S9+ in Lilac Purple that looks amazing, the contrast between the display and the actual frame of the phone gives it such a good look.

    Performance

When you are buying a new smartphone, a premium one for that, you do not want to get one that cannot handle what you throw at it. It should run through different applications without slowing down. This is what the Galaxy S9+ offers. I have been using it continuously and playing games has not slowed it down even once.

The Exynos 9810 processor that is paired with 6GB of RAM and the Mali-G72 MP18 make the experience really good. Not even once have I experienced any lags when using this phone and this is commendable.

Stereo speakers, Dust/water proof, biometrics etc

I have to include all these in one section as I feel that they may not stand out but they are small features that make the Galaxy S9+ great. They are not unique to this phone but when used together, they are some of the things that make the Galaxy 9+ an awesome phone.

The stereo speakers make for good experience when watching movies. The biometrics give you different options to secure your phone. You can decide to use face unlock, Iris unlock, fingerprints or go with Intelligent scan which uses both face and iris data to unlock your phone.

These are just some of the things I love about the Galaxy S9+ so far. You can buy the Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones from Jumia here.
