The OPPO F5 Youth Is Up On Pre-Order, It Will Go On Sale on December 15, 2017

A few weeks ago, OPPO unveiled its latest selfie-centric device, the OPPO F5, in Kenya. This is just one of the three variants of the phone that the company will be bringing into the country. The other two variants include the 6GB OPPO F5 model that will be available for Ksh 39,000 and the OPPO F5 Youth that is up on pre-order in Kenya for Ksh 26,990. The standard OPPO F5 is a 4GB model and is available for Ksh 32,000.

Back to the OPPO F5 youth, it will be available on Jumia and that is where you can pre-order one if you want to. As mentioned above, it will be available for Ksh 26,990, not the lowest price we have seen around to be honest. I am still not sure why the company chose to go with Jumia for the pre-orders but I am sure those who do not want to use Jumia will be able to get it in open market at a later date.

The OPPO F5 youth is not that different from the standard F5 and this is evident from the price. The difference between the two is just Ksh 5,000 and I am not entirely sure this is a good strategy. I was expecting the price of the F5 Youth to be where the OPPO A71 was, not more than Ksh 20,000. That would make more sense and would warrant having both models on the market. Either way, it is interesting to see OPPO flood the market and try to push out other manufacturers from this price point.

Given the high price, I was really interested to see the specs of the OPPO F5 youth and to be honest I was not disappointed. It comes with 6 inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. This display has an 18:9 aspect ratio (a display that is twice as tall as it is wide).

Powering the OPPO F5 youth is the 2.5GHz octa-core MediaTel Helio p23 processor paired with 32GB of internal storage space that can be expanded to 256GB. The phone comes with ColorOS v3.2 that is based on Android Nougat.

As for the camera, the OPPO F5 Youth has a 13MP unit at the back and a 16MP front facing one. This is not a bad downgrade from the standard F5. The front facing camera comes with the same Artificial intelligent beautification technology to ensure smooth and better looking selfies.

The phone comes with a 3200mAh battery, the same one on the F5 that is currently available on the market.

In the meantime, I am working on the OPPO F5 review that will be up next week on Monday.
