Android Nouagt for infinix s2 pro

The latest smartphone from Infinix is the S2 Pro. I have been using this phone for about a week and it is a very good device overall.

That said, the Infinix S2 Pro comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled. This can be a deal breaker for some people and if you are one of them, you should be happy as the phone is getting updated with Android 7.0 Nougat. This update also brings XOS version 2.1.0 to the S2 Pro.

I got the notification to update my device yesterday and since I am not part of any beta program run by Infinix, it is safe to say that the update is rolling out to anyone who owns this phone. Besides bringing Android 7.0 Nougat and XOS 2.1.0, the changelog lists the following changes as part of the update:

Get Android 7.0 Nougat on the Infinix S2 Pro

You will get a notification to download Android 7.0 Nougat on the Infinix S2 Pro once it is available for your device. On your phone, you can head over to Settings > About Phone > System Update to see if it is available for you. The update is about 1.8GB in size so you need a reliable Wi-Fi connection to successfully download it. One thing I noticed when downloading this update is that it was very slow, and no, the problem wasn’t with my internet connection. It took over 8 hours to download, I don’t know if this was just an isolated case or everyone experienced the same. If it was not just me, I expect Infinix to sort out the issues as soon as possible.

Infinix S2 Pro Nougat update

Once the update is installed, you will be able to enjoy all the features available to other Android Nougat users. One of these is support for Split screen, you will be able to activate this by long pressing the recent apps button.

The biggest issue I have with this update has to do with the notifications, you get something that looks like a circle and this does not clearly tell you which app the notification is from. I noticed this was the default notification icon for all Google apps (Gmail, YouTube etc) and sometimes with messaging apps including WhatsApp and Telegram This isn’t that big of a deal and I am sure it can be fixed with a minor update.
