Samsung has done a pretty good job with updating some of its devices to the latest Android iteration, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company is continuously adding more devices to the list and latest devices Samsung has added here are the Galaxy S6 Plus and the Galaxy Note 4.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus was launched back in 2014 and was a variant of the flagship of that year (the Galaxy S5) and to see Samsung still support it is impressive. The Galaxy S5 has already been updated to Android Marshmallow and it is time for some of its variants to get the same treatment.
Android Marshmallow has just started rolling out to the Galaxy S5 Plus variant (model SM-G901F) in Germany so you have to be patient if it is not available for your device just yet. The Galaxy S5 Plus came with Android KitKat and was updated to Lollipop in March last year and now is getting Marshmallow treatment. That is quite a ride and something we never see many manufacturer do.
This update is currently available through Samsung Smart Switch and not Over The Air (OTA). We should expect an OTA update to be available to all users globally within a few weeks.
Galaxy Note 4
Besides the Galaxy S5 Plus, Samsung is also rolling out Android Marshmallow to more Galaxy Note 4 models. The update is rolling out to the N910F model to some users in Europe a few weeks after the company made it available for the Exynos-based N910C model.
The Galaxy Note 4 is a 2-year-old device and it’s a good thing to see Samsung still supporting it. The update is 1.3GB in size so you should have a pretty good Wi-Fi connection to successfully update your device.
As the year goes by, I expect Samsung to roll out Android Marshmallow to some of the Galaxy A devices including the A3, A5, A7 and A8.
