The Successor to The Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia X Premium, to Come with the first HDR Display on a Smartphone

Back in February, Sony announced a new smartphone lineup, the Xperia X series. This new lineup was announced as a replacement to the company’s current Z line. Some of the first devices in this new series that Sony announced include Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XA.

It looks like these are not the only Xperia X devices that Sony will be launching this year as we are hearing that the company is also working on the Xperia X Premium which is believed to the successor to the company’s 2015 flagship, the Xperia Z5. The Xperia X Premium as expected will come with premium specs and will be a lot similar to the Z5 with the main thing differentiating it from the other models will probably be its display.

The Xperia X Premium is expected to have an HDR display which will be the first on a smartphone. HDR is very common on TVs but has not been used on a smartphone by any of the big manufacturers and Sony wants to the first. The company included a 4K display on the Z5 Premium and wants to take that even higher with the Xperia X Premium.

To put it into perspective, picture this, your normal high end smartphone screen display is able to show 16.8 million colors while the HDR display will be able to show 1.07 billion colors. Of course there are some who will argue if that is even necessary or if it will make any difference. The display on the Xperia X will also be the brightest ever to be included on a smartphone. Sony is able to do such things as it has an active TV lineup and has been known to be innovative in that field.

Some other features you should expect on the Xperia X include 3GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and USB Type-C support. These are just the only specs we know so far and we will know more when the device is about to the launched. We still aren’t sure when the phone will be launched but I expect it to be announced before the second half of the year.
