Alcatel started MWC 2016 with a bang as it unveiled three new affordable smartphones, the Alcatel POP 4, POP 4+ and POP 4S. These devices are targeting the lower end market segments from the entry level segments to the lower mid-range segments. These devices also come into the market at a time when Alcatel has dropped the ‘OneTouch’ on its devices.

These devices are meant for the youth who take a lot of photos and spend most of their time on social media. They come with some specs you expect on any entry level or mid-range smartphone.

    Alcatel POP 4

The Alcatel POP 4 comes with a 5 inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, this translates to a pixel density of 293 PPI.  Below is a look at some of the specs of the POP 4.

    Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 210

    Processor: 1.1GHz Octa Core Processor

    RAM: 1 GB

Storage Space: 8 GB expandable to 32GB

    Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

    Network: Supports Cat 4 LTE

Camera: 8MP at the back with a 5MP (wide-angle) one in front

    Battery: 2500 mAh

    The Alcatel POP 4+

The Alcatel POP 4+ on the other hand is the big brother of the POP 4. It has almost the same features as the POP 4 with the only big difference being its size. Below is a look at some of its specs.

    Display: 5.5 inch with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels

    Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 210

    Processor: 1.1GHz Octa Core Processor

    RAM: 1.5 GB

Storage Space: 16 GB expandable to 32GB

    Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

    Network: Supports Cat 4 LTE

Camera: 8MP at the back with a 5MP (wide-angle) one in front

    Battery: 2500 mAh

    The Alcatel POP 4S

The Alcatel POP 4S is the ‘premium’ smartphone of the three and this is evident from its specs. Take a look at some of the specs below.

    Display: 5.5 inch with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels

    Chipset: MediaTek MT6755M

Processor: 4 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, 4 clocked at 1 GHz

    RAM: 2 GB

Storage Space: 16 GB expandable to 64GB

    Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

    Network: Supports Cat 6 LTE

Camera: 13MP at the back with dual-tone LED flash and a 5MP (wide-angle) one in front

Pricing and availability of these three smartphones will be announced soon. Am expecting to see these three devices in Kenya before the second half of the year.
