Facebook is testing a new SMS integration feature on Android

Facebook messenger

Facebook is currently testing a new SMS integration feature for its Android app. This new feature will offer users the chance of messaging their contacts (both on Facebook and their contact lists) very easily without having to move between different apps. This makes it easier and convenient for those who want an app that gets things done without many complications.

Facebook tried its luck a few years ago when it allowed users to set Messenger to be their default SMS app but things did not turn out that well. Users did not like it as most of those likely to download third party SMS apps had far better options while the rest prefer to stick with the stock SMS apps that come with the phone.

The new SMS integration feature for Android is still being tested and will be rolled out to the general public when that is done. To differentiate between Facebook messages and text messages, Facebook will use blue for Facebook messages and purple for texts.

Facebook has been very aggressive with getting people to use its many different apps. The company bought WhatsApp and Instagram which are some of the fastest rising apps among the youth and this is one way Facebook in banking on its future. With this new SMS integration, Facebook is trying to get into your texts. The question is, will people allow this? Will they opt in into this feature?

Multiple Account Support

Facebook is also testing a new feature that will allow users to manage multiple accounts on one device. This is the same feature that Instagram rolled out to its users a few days ago. This is a long awaited feature and it is good that Facebook is finally adding it to its apps.
