A few day ago, Airtel Kenya announced a new partnership with National Bank of Kenya to deliver mobile banking services through the Airtel money service.
The partnership between National Bank and Airtel is aimed at enabling *625# on Airtel. This is a mobile banking service that will allow Airtel customers to access their National Bank accounts for free for the first 3 months with minimal charges after the 3-month campaign. Customers will be able, via mobile, to view their accounts, manage their accounts, make bill payments, transfer money to their Airtel Money from their bank accounts and vice versa.
The two firms target a long-term relationship whereby they will share their agents with National Bank agents offering Airtel Money services and Airtel agents offering National Bank services. This will be extended to branches where Airtel Money agents and customers will be able to access Airtel Money services via National Bank branches.
This mobile-banking service will increase the reach for National Bank account holders and Airtel Money subscribers in the country in a convenient, easy and simple manner without physically visiting a branch for any transactions. It is a further step in the two firms’ continued efforts towards financial inclusion in the country.
This partnership will see both Airtel and National Bank deepen their strategic partnership in an area where their collaboration is already paying off. And now with a dedicated mobile-banking service with the most comprehensive offering, the partnership will widen the possibilities of what customers can do using their phones.
Speaking during the launch National Bank Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Munir said, “Our transformation agenda is in progress, as we strategically leverage on innovation and technology to expand the scope and reach of the distribution network. We are therefore providing Kenyans with faster and convenient transactions, 24/7 from our new Mobile Banking (NatMobile) and Internet Banking (NatConnect) platforms. Our focus remains to deliver innovative channels through which we can efficiently provide services to all customers,” he concluded
On his part, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said, “Getting access to financial services via the mobile phone can make a massive difference to people’s lives.
