Last week, BlackBerry announced its first Android powered smartphone, the BlackBerry Priv. Even with its first Android smartphone, BlackBerry is not about to ditch its own OS as some people had expected. The company’s CEO, John Chen categorically stated that they will continue supporting the OS even as it dives into Android.

BlackBerry revealed that it will be rolling out BlackBerry 10.3.3 next year in March. This update according to BlackBerry will focus on “on security and privacy enhancements.” As you can see, there will be no major changes in the OS and this does not look too good if you ask me. It seems like BlackBerry has acknowledged that its OS is a failure and is not willing to develop it further, but then, just that’s me.

What of New BlackBerry 10 Devices

Interesting enough, BlackBerry did not say anything about new BlackBerry 10 devices. Consider the fact that BlackBerry just announced the BlackBerry Priv which is the company’s first Android device. Does this mean the end for BlackBerry OS smartphones? We are not sure about that, only time will tell. The company says that it is committed to the platform but if it is not making money, it will have to look for alternatives.

BlackBerry 10.3.2 started rolling out a few months ago and brought some changes to the OS including a new UI to BlackBerry Blend. At the moment, the future of BB 10 is still unknown.
