Android wear has just received its first major update today. The Smartwatch platform similar to Android on Smartphones has seen significant growth thanks to its adoption by manufacturers such as LG  with the LG G Watch.

Before this update, Android Wear users did not have much customization or ‘cool’ features that make it appealing to most users. The update hopes to change this as it brings more customization including new watch faces and bands, Wi-Fi support, hand gestures and a cool new feature that allows users to draw and send emojis to friends.

Updating the platform will help Google stay in the lead in this sector especially after Samsung (one of the biggest players) decided to make a smartwatch running on Tizen. This update comes days before Apple watch starts shipping to consumers.

The Wi-Fi support feature means that you will still be able to get notifications even when your phone is out of range.
