‘Selfie phones’ are Smartphones with high capacity front facing cameras (mostly 5MP and above). These high capacity front cameras are perfect for those addicted to taking self portraits (selfies) with their Smartphones. Already, Sony and Nokia have jumped into the hype with their own self phones earlier this month.

Samsung does not want to be left behind as it also has its own selfie phone that is yet to hit the retail stores. The Smartphone dubbed the Galaxy Grand Prime is rumoured to be heading to India first this week before the rest of the world. India has always been the first market for many Smartphone manufacturers when they are launching mid range and entry level Smartphones and the Galaxy Grand prime is no different. According to some retailer in India, the Smartphone will retail at $260 (approximately Ksh. 23,200 pre tax).

Since the Galaxy Grand Prime is a ‘selfie phone’ the key feature is its front facing camera that is a 5MP one with a wide angle lens. Other specs include a 5-inch qHD screen (960×540 pixels), a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card. At the back there will be an 8MP camera and a 2,600 mAh battery under the frame.

All these are solid specs except for the qHD screen that does not compare to other Smartphones in the same price range. All in all, the Galaxy Grand prime is a really good Smartphone and I hope we will get it in Kenya in the next few weeks.
