Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 have been around for a while now and Microsoft is finally ready for the next major update that will include Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9. Microsoft did not see much success with Windows 8 with slow uptake among users. The company hopes to change all this with the upcoming update. This will be the first major update for Microsoft since its new CEO, Satya Nadella took over.

Sources close to the company claim that Microsoft will officially unveil the next Windows version on September 30. It should be clear that the date and the final name of the Windows version are still not clear but these are my educated guesses. The source in the company reveals that the next version that Microsoft is working on is codenamed “Threshold.”

Some of the main changes on the next version of Windows include a new Start Menu, early version of Cortana for Windows and the removal of Charms bar. Microsoft is also believed to be in the process of merging of Windows RT and Windows Phone into one unified mobile operating system.

More of this will be revealed as we get additional information
