Spotify is introducing a new “AI Persona” badge to help listeners identify artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities rather than real people.
The streaming platform says the move is part of its broader effort to improve transparency and trust as generative AI becomes increasingly common in music.
Starting in mid-September 2026, the AI Persona badge will appear on some artist profiles, in search results and on track rows across playlists. The label will indicate that an artist’s public identity may be AI-generated and does not represent a real person.
Artists will be able to voluntarily disclose that they are an AI Persona through Spotify for Artists. However, Spotify says it will not rely solely on self-disclosure. Its review teams will also assess artist profiles whose public identities, including names and imagery, appear to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities.
Profiles identified by Spotify will be notified and given the opportunity to disclose their status or appeal the decision.
AI Personas excluded from recommendations
Spotify says AI Persona profiles will not be included in editorial or algorithmic recommendations by default. Users who follow an AI Persona may still encounter their music through personalized recommendations.
The company stressed that the new label is focused on the identity presented by an artist, rather than whether AI was used to create their music.
Spotify already offers AI Credits, which allow artists to disclose how AI was used in creating a track, as well as SongDNA, which provides additional information about the people and contributors behind music.
