At Safaricom Decode 4.0, Safaricom previewed My OneApp, a new unified platform designed to merge the M-PESA and MySafaricom apps into a single app.
According to Safaricom, the biggest friction point for users today is it’s fragmentation and notn lack of features. Customers end up switching between the M-PESA app and the MySafaricom apps to check balances, buy bundles, pay bills and manage financial services.
That’s exactly what My OneApp aims to fix.
“We love the apps, we love the features, but we don’t love the switch.”
Safaricom is also pushing personalization powered by AI beyond convergence. The app introduces a dynamic interface that adapts to user behavior, including frequently used contacts for faster money transfers, preferred bills and recurring payments, personalized bundle recommendations and most-used mini apps surfaced on the home screen.
The more a user interacts with the app, the more it learns and reorganizes itself. This is quite different from the static app to behaviour-driven interfaces like is the case with most global super apps.
The app also shifts to a broader digital ecosystem beyond telecom and payments. With this app, users will be able to access financial tools like savings and credit services, stream live content, play games, buy and read newspapers and explore mini apps.
Safaricom is also pushing user control and self-service to the app reducing reliance on USSD and customer care. Users can also resolve issues like PIN resets or network complaints directly within the app.
