Visa has announced the availability of Visa Intelligent Authorization in Kenya.

The solution was launched during the Visa Connect Kenya forum and is part of the Visa Acceptance Platform. It is designed to help acquirers streamline transaction processing through a single API connection.

Acquirers that process payments on behalf of merchants play a central role in digital transactions by sending real-time authorization requests to issuing banks for approval or decline. Many of the existing authorization systems are built on legacy infrastructure resulting in lower approval rates, higher operational costs and increased complexity in meeting regulatory requirements.

Visa Intelligent Authorization is designed to address these challenges by enabling transaction processing across both global and local card networks through a single integration. Visa says the platform delivers 99.999% uptime and achieves an average global approval rate of 96.3%.

The company says the solution can be deployed either as a primary authorization processor or alongside existing systems to enhance resilience and support business continuity.

Visa also added that the platform provides real-time insights and payment updates intended to improve transaction efficiency, reduce friction across the payment lifecycle and support faster processes such as settlement.

“Commerce is evolving rapidly, and acquirers need authorization infrastructure that can keep up,” said Walter Lironi, Head of Value-Added Services for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Visa.

“Many transactions still run on legacy systems built for a different era. Visa Intelligent Authorization modernizes payment processing through a single API across major global and local card networks.”
