Roam has announced the launch of Roam Point, a new fast charging station designed for light electric vehicles (LEVs). The company says it is the first publicly available high-speed charging point for LEVs in Kenya. The new station marks the beginning of a planned nationwide rollout of similar charging sites.

Roam Point is built to offer quick top ups, delivering a range of between 10 and 20 kilometers in less than five minutes. The system runs on a self service model and allows riders to initiate payments through USSD or through the Roam mobile app. This allows real time transactions and keeps the station accessible throughout the day and night.

Roam Point aims to offer a faster and more flexible charging option that also works across different vehicle models. The station uses Type 6 connectors and open charge standards. This makes it compatible with any light electric vehicle that follows the same specifications.

Roam says that the introduction of these stations creates a foundation for wider EV adoption by supporting common standards, international certification and full interoperability across brands. The company says this approach provides a credible path to scaling electric mobility in Kenya.

Speaking during the launch, Roam Country Manager Habib Lukaya said that Roam Point complements the company’s battery ownership model. He added that the goal is to give riders more freedom in how and where they stay powered.

“The Roam Point builds on the battery ownership model, which gives riders full control of their batteries, allowing them to ride everywhere and charge anywhere. It adds flexibility to how riders stay charged. Whether it is home charging, hub rental, or fast charging on the go, we want to empower our riders with the choice that fits their needs,” he said.

Roam plans to expand Roam Point locations as electric mobility gains momentum across the country.
