Absa has partnered with Huawei to launch a Private Cloud Solution. This move accelerates its transition into a digital-first, cloud-native bank.

The platform will enable Absa to offer personalised, data-driven banking experiences, while maintaining local data sovereignty and meeting regulatory requirements in its Pan-African markets.

“This partnership reflects our ambition to lead with technology that delivers real impact,” said Charles Russon, Absa Group Executive for Africa Regions. “By building a secure, cloud-native foundation designed for Africa’s unique realities, we’re creating the ability to serve customers better with experiences that are faster, safer, and truly reflective of the communities we operate in.”

Built on Huawei’s cloud infrastructure, the solution will be deployed across Absa’s regional operations, supporting rapid service rollout, improved data governance, and innovation in areas such as payments, lending, and financial inclusion.

“Our collaboration with Huawei empowers Absa to deliver in a manner that supports our customers with technology that delivers high performance, reliability, and flexibility,” added Muhammad Ali Bhikhan, Chief Information Officer for Absa Regional Operations. “This cloud infrastructure enables our ambitions to deliver digital solutions that are locally relevant, trusted, and tailored to Africa’s dynamic markets.”

“We are proud to collaborate with Absa in building a robust private cloud infrastructure that drives innovation and regulatory compliance across Africa,” said Will Meng, CEO of Huawei South Africa. “This partnership reflects our shared vision of delivering secure, scalable, and intelligent financial services to communities across the continent.”

The move aligns with a broader shift among African banks toward private and hybrid cloud infrastructure, as financial institutions seek to improve scalability, enhance data control and accelerate innovation.
