Uber has just celebrated 10 years in Kenya with the launch of Uber Safari, a first-of-its-kind service that lets you book a safari directly through the Uber app. The service offers on-demand Day and Night safaris at Nairobi National Park.

    What is Uber Safari?

Uber Safari allows riders to book tailored safari experiences. It is currently available only in Nairobi National Park. Travellers can choose between a day Safari or a night Safari.

    How Uber Safari Works

Booking is straightforward for anyone who has used Uber before:

    1. Open the Uber app and select Uber Safari.
    2. Choose your safari type – Day or Night.
    3. Book in advance via Uber Reserve.
    4. Be picked up in a safari-ready Land Cruiser operated by licensed local tour companies.
    5. Enjoy a 3-hour guided wildlife experience before returning to the city.

Each safari comes with a licensed guide.

The service is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) and the Tourism Regulatory Authority. All vehicles are licensed safari Land Cruisers and drivers and guides are vetted, professional, and trained.

    Why Uber Safari

Kenya’s tourism sector is one of its biggest economic drivers, contributing 10.4% of GDP and employing millions. Uber itself says it contributed KSh 14.1 billion to Kenya’s economy in 2023.

Uber Safari makes safaris more accessible for both locals and visitors. It also supports local tour operators as it connects them with Uber’s rider base. It also creates new income opportunities for drivers, guides and fleet owners.

What You Should Know Before Booking

Here are key things to keep in mind before you book:

    • Availability – Only available in Nairobi National Park (for now).
    • Duration – Takes around 3 hours.
    • Vehicles – Safari-ready Land Cruisers.

    • Booking – Must be made in advance using Uber Reserve.
    • Safari Types -You can choose between Day Safari and Night Safari.
