The investment was made via Savant Group Ltd., SunCulture’s parent company.
“This investment reflects a milestone in our new strategy to support projects and companies that address critical infrastructure gaps and build long-term resilience against increasing water stress,” said Aleem Remtula, Head of Private Equity and Infrastructure Investments at WaterEquity.
Rural communities in Africa face some of the steepest water access challenges. More than 80% of Africa’s rural population still relies on sources outside their homes, with women and girls carrying the greatest burden of water collection. By targeting decentralized, affordable solutions, SunCulture is addressing both a social and economic challenge.
SunCulture’s solar-powered water pumps offer smallholder farmers an alternative to diesel or manual pumps. They are designed for irrigation but over 90% of SunCulture’s customers use them for household water needs These include drinking, cooking and cleaning. This dual-use case strengthens both agricultural productivity and household resilience.
SunCulture plans to use this investment to deepen its footprint in rural Africa by expanding affordable access to groundwater and reducing reliance on carbon-intensive pumping technologies.
“WaterEquity understands that water investments don’t fall into a single box – scaling water infrastructure can deliver both incredible impact and strong commercial returns. We’re proud to be the first investment from their new fund,” said Samir Ibrahim, CEO and Co-Founder of SunCulture.
The funding will enable the company to scale operations and reach millions of farmers and households.
The Water & Climate Resilience Fund is backed by a diverse group of global investors. These include Microsoft, Starbucks, Xylem, Ecolab, Reckitt and Gap Inc. Their participation signals a shift in private sector engagement toward solving water and sanitation challenges.
“This first investment marks a pivotal milestone for the Fund, demonstrating how collective action and strategic investing can scale water and sanitation solutions in emerging markets,” said Elan Emanuel, Managing Director and Chief Investor Relations Officer at WaterEquity.
