A few weeks ago, while attending a friend’s wedding in Nairobi, I met Mr. Otieno, a soft-spoken father of two with a gentle sense of humour. As we got talking, he painted a picture of life at home that felt familiar.

“By 7 p.m.,” he said, “our house is buzzing. One child is online with her tutor, the other is watching cartoons YouTube. At the same time, my wife is preparing a presentation for work. I am the relaxed one, usually catching up on football highlights. Without Safaricom Home Fibre, none of this would run smoothly.”

His story stuck with me because it was more than the internet. It was about what reliable connectivity and specifically Safaricom Home Fibre makes alot of things possible. From learning, productivity, entertainment and family moments all happening under one roof at the same time.

Mr. Otieno’s household is a reflection of many Kenyan families that are navigating the modern digital lifestyle. Their evenings are a mix of school assignments, work presentations and family bonding over streaming platforms.

Mr. Otieno put it best, “When the internet is down, it’s not just the Wi-Fi that’s off, the whole rhythm of the house is disrupted.”

For him, Safaricom Home Fibre isn’t a luxury. It’s the difference between his wife finishing her client deck on time, his kids completing their assignment and the family enjoying a quiet movie night together.

    More Than Entertainment

While entertainment is often the most visible benefit, Mr. Otieno shared how fibre has gone beyond that for his family. His wife occasionally works from home and needs uninterrupted video calls. His eldest child uses online resources to supplement schoolwork and even his young son is beginning to learn coding basics through different child-friendly platforms.

He said, “It is about possibilities. My kids are exposed to opportunities I never had growing up. And my wife doesn’t have to fight with the internet when she is on a tight deadline.”

During our chat, I mentioned that Safaricom has been running Home Fibre Clinics across the country. These are spaces where customers can get hands-on support and understand how to get the most out of their connection.

Mr. Otieno leaned in with interest, “That sounds useful,” he said. “Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know until someone explains it.” He told me he might check one out the next time there’s one nearby.

Conversations like the one I had with Mr. Otieno just show how Safaricom Home Fibre is more than just a service. It’s an enabler that helps parents balance work demands, empowers children with access to online learning and brings families together through shared digital experiences.

It also shows that support matters. Whether it’s through dedicated clinics, guides or real people offering advice. The human side of technology is just as important as the speeds and numbers advertised.

“It’s the connection that keeps my family moving,” Mr. Otieno told me as our conversation wound down.
