Uganda has rolled out its first collaborative, shared-infrastructure broadband network. This is designed to bring fast, secure, and inclusive internet access to every corner of the country. This initiative is the product of a partnership between local telecom Sombha Solutions Store, global tech company Veea Inc., and infrastructure firm BG Titan Group (BGT).
Dubbed the “Internet-for-All” network, the project marks a clear shift in how connectivity is delivered. It moves away from isolated telecom competition to a shared model that allows every licensed operator to access the same infrastructure. This results in a rapid, cost-efficient, and widespread digital access for all Ugandans.
“What we’re achieving today is exactly what UCC envisioned—transforming competitive barriers into pathways of collaboration,” said Haruna Nyanzi Lule, CEO of Sombha Solutions Store. “Together, we are delivering the promise of the digital future to all Ugandans.”
With less than 300,000 cybersecurity professionals across Africa and persistent digital gaps in rural areas, the need for inclusive infrastructure is needed.
At the core of the pilot is Veea’s Trusted Broadband Access (vTBA) platform, which powers smart connectivity through compact, edge-ready VeeaHub devices. These hubs bring together Wi-Fi, edge computing, intelligent content caching, dynamic backhaul, and AI-powered cybersecurity. All this under a unified system that supports multi-operator access.
Some of the main features of this platform are:
- Managed Wi-Fi and Bandwidth Slicing – Every telecom provider can securely serve customers over the same infrastructure without sacrificing quality.
- Open APIs and Edge Marketplaces – Developers can deploy apps for sectors like health, education and agriculture directly at the edge.
- Intelligent Caching and Resilience – Content is served locally even when communities are offline temporarily.
Besides the tech, the pilot is already impacting real lives including:
- Tele-maternal clinics which allow expectant mothers to consult city hospitals from rural health centers.
- Smart classrooms that deliver Ministry-approved lessons via live stream or cached content.
- IoT-powered farms are helping smallholders make better decisions using real-time data.
- Community e-centres are turning into digital lifelines, offering access to public services and financial tools.

Over the next six months, BG Titan Group will oversee network expansion, supported by sustainable energy solutions and innovative financing. The aim is not just to scale the model in Uganda, but to replicate it across East Africa, laying the groundwork for a digitally inclusive region.
