Equity Group has been named the prestigious Superbrand title for the fourth time. The Superbrands designation is now in its ninth edition and celebrates organizations that exemplify quality, reliability, and distinction.

“We are honored to be recognized as a Superbrand,” said Dr. James Mwangi, Group Managing Director and CEO. “This recognition belongs to our customers and our staff who go the extra mile. It reflects our deep commitment to transforming lives, building wealth, and improving livelihoods across East Africa.”

Equity was first named a Superbrand back in 2007, making it the first Kenyan bank to receive the distinction. This recognition is awarded after an evaluation process by an independent research firm. This is followed  by a panel of branding experts who now assess the brands on:

    • Quality – Consistently delivering world-class products and services.
    • Reliability – Maintaining customer trust and high performance.
    • Distinction – Standing out in the market with a recognizable identity and value.

According to Jawad Jaffer, Project Director at Superbrands East Africa, Equity’s consistency in innovation, customer focus, and social impact made it a standout once again.

“Equity has shown what it truly means to be a Superbrand in today’s competitive landscape,” said Jaffer. “Balancing tech innovation with community needs is exactly what sets them apart.”

The award comes at a critical moment as Equity deepens its presence across East and Central Africa, serving diverse markets in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC. With the Superbrands seal, Equity can now showcase a mark of trust across all its territories — a boost to credibility in new markets and customer decision-making.

Equity’s strong showing isn’t limited to Superbrands. At the recent 20th Think Business Banking Awards, the bank scooped an impressive 16 awards, including Best in SME Banking, Agriculture Financing, Financial Literacy Programs, and Product Innovation. The awards further highlight Equity’s leadership in sectors critical to East Africa’s development.
