Huawei Kenya welcomed 18 top-performing students from universities across the country to its offices this week, marking the start of an intensive training program in preparation for the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Final of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025. The students, who triumphed in the national finals, will represent Kenya at the regional showdown set for late February 2025.

The participants, drawn from Moi University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Machakos University, the University of Nairobi’s ICT Center, Africa Nazarene University, and Mount Kenya University, will undergo rigorous mentorship, hands-on workshops, and collaborative sessions led by Huawei experts. The training focuses on cutting-edge ICT domains such as networking, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, equipping the students with practical skills to excel in the upcoming regional contest.

    Empowering Kenya’s Digital Future

Speaking at the orientation event, Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei Kenya’s Head of ICT Academy Program, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing local talent: “These students embody the innovation and determination that will drive Kenya’s digital transformation. Huawei is proud to support their journey, providing platforms like the ICT Competition to bridge the gap between academia and industry. We are confident they will make Kenya proud at the regional and global stages.”

The Huawei ICT Competition, a flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, aims to develop a robust ICT talent ecosystem by fostering skills aligned with global industry standards. Regional finalists will compete for opportunities to advance to the global finals, alongside internships, certifications, and career development prospects.
