The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, recently visited the Konza Technopolis and highlighted its international significance as a key component of Kenya’s Vision 2030.

A statement from Konza reads, “Konza Technopolis team presented the overview of the smart city to His Excellency Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The president who was on a familiarization tour of the Technopolis was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Youth, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya.”

The Konza Technopolis has been referred to as Africa’s Silicon Savannah and seeks to develop  smart city services, promote innovation, green energy and foster a dynamic business environment.

Central to this vision is the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, inspired by South Korea’s KAIST, which drives research and innovation in critical fields, supporting Africa’s demand for skilled professionals. The Jitume initiative under the Konza Digital Skills Jitume Program furthers this by equipping Kenyans with the digital skills necessary to engage with global markets.

Konza also hosts the Greentech Innovation Hub, part of a UNDP project to advance sustainability and tech across Africa. Upcoming is the Konza Media City, aimed at making Kenya a leader in digital content, promising new avenues for economic growth and employment.

With investments exceeding $1.2 billion from over 140 investors, including recent commitments from Riara University and GS1 Kenya, Konza is set to revolutionize sectors like ICT, healthcare, and manufacturing. President Embaló’s visit confirms Konza’s status as a beacon for Kenya’s push towards a knowledge-based economy, job creation, and sustainable innovation.
