Right after Kenya’s president, William Ruto dismissed all his cabinet secretaries, State House swiftly removed all of them from the president.go.ke website. Even though this was expected, the speed at which they were removed from the website was unexpected.

The only 4 individuals left on the site are the President, Deputy President, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Secretary to be Cabinet.

President William Ruto yesterday fired all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General yesterday afternoon. He said he came to this conclusion after “reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said.” He went ahead to say this decision was after “A holistic appraisal of the performance of the cabinet and its achievements and challenges.”

The President is yet to appoint the next Cabinet Secretaries and I am curious to see who will end up being the CS for ICT. CS Owalo was not particularly impactful at his role and he will probably be remembered for launching Wi-Fi hotspots across the country more than anything. I hope his replacement will be better and have a visionary approach for the tech sector in Kenya. We can’t be known as a hub for innovation and technology and all the CS focuses on in the imaginary digital superhighway and Wi-Fi hotspots.
