The OPPO Reno11 F 5G was recently unveiled in Kenya and is available in stores from Ksh 47,999. This is one of the devices in the Reno 11 series that was launched in Kenya earlier this year. This is the affordable model of the series and should be on your list if you are looking for a smartphone under Ksh 50,000.

I have the Reno11 F 5G in for review which should be up in a couple of weeks. Before we get to the review, this post will highlight my first impressions of this phone and show you what you can expect to get in the box when you buy one.

    Reno11 F First Impressions

Taking the Reno11 F out of the box, it is clear that OPPO has ditched the design language we had on the Reno8 T and Reno 10 series. These phones had a slightly curved display and back giving them a unique look. With the Reno11 F, OPPO has gone back to the design of the Reno 8. This consists of a flat back and flat display. It still looks classy but I prefer the curved display of the Reno 10.

The flat design isn’t bad though, the phone still looks classy. I got the one in Palm Green colour which looks stunning. This is the colour I would recommend anyone buying this phone. It is bold yet subtle to grab attention anytime you are using the phone.

The phone is comfortable and easy to use even with one hand. The power and volume keys are on the right side and within easy reach. The speaker USB C port and speaker grille are on the bottom part. The phone has single speakers and not stereo speakers as I was expecting. OPPO should consider having stereo speakers on the Reno 12 to give the phone an edge over competitors.

The back camera module is made up of a triple camera setup with a 64 MP main sensor. The photos I got with this camera are quite good, better than the Reno 10 in my opinion. I will talk more about this camera in the full review.

    OPPO Reno 11 F Camera

Overall, the build quality of this phone is impeccable.

The display is a 6.7 inch one that is very bright and crisp. This is an Amoled display with 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels. Saying I love this display is an understatement. It reproduces colours accurately and with high clarity even under direct sunlight. The viewing angles are also good. This display is perfect for media consumption and I can’t wait to use it for longer during my review period.

The phone has an under-display fingerprint scanner which is easy to set up and accurate. It is placed way towards the bottom of the display which is not necessarily the natural place your thumb will fall to when holding the phone but still works. OPPO should look into having the scanner slightly higher than where it is right now with the next iteration.

In summary, this display is punchy and responsive and can be used under different lighting conditions. It gets bright enough even to use under direct sunlight.

As for the software, the Reno11 F is powered by Android 14 with ColorOS 14. Under the hood sits the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Performance has been good so far and I do not expect any changes. The Dimensity 7050 processor is capable of handling even demanding tasks with no issues at all.

The phone has a 5000 mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. I will use this battery extensively and share my thoughts on it in another post.

    Verdict

The Reno11 F 5G took a different direction with the design compared to the Reno 10. While I like the curved design of the Reno 10, I am getting used to the flat design of the Reno11 F. It does look and feel classy. The display is also very good, bright and has amazing viewing angles. This is perfect for those who consume media.

    OPPO Reno 11 F back

The performance is also good and so are the cameras. They do capture details really well better than the Reno 10. The battery is equally as good and can easily last an entire day on a single charge.

I will be using this phone over the next couple of weeks and share my thoughts on it then.
