If you are looking for a new smartphone between Ksh 55,000 and KJsh 65,000, the OPPO Reno10 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G should definitely be on your list. The Galaxy A54 was unveiled in Kenya earlier this year while the Reno10 5G was unveiled in the country earlier this month. Today, we’re putting the two phones against each other to help you decide which one offers you value for money.

    Design and Build

The OPPO Reno 10 exudes elegance with its glass front, framed by a sturdy plastic casing and a polished back. It is available in Silvery Grey and Ice Blue colors which both look good. I have the Ice Blue one that looks stunning and the color changes slightly depending on the angle the light hits it from. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy A54 opts for Gorilla Glass 5 on the  front, held together by a plastic frame. It’s available in a range of colors including Lime, Graphite, Violet, and White.

Both phones are aesthetically pleasing, but the OPPO Reno 10’s premium build gives it a slight edge. The design and build of the A54 is what we have seen on most Samsung smartphones in recent years so nothing new here. As for OPPO, this design is refreshing and we first saw it on the Reno8 T earlier this year.

    Display

Both phones boast impressive displays. The OPPO Reno 10 features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with HDR10+ support and a 120Hz refresh rate. This translates to stunning visuals, deep blacks, and smooth interactions. The Galaxy A54 sports a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with HDR10+ support, providing vibrant colors and sharp contrast.

You get a responsive and immersive experience with either as both support HDR10+ and 120Hz refresh rate. The display on the Reno 10 is slightly curved giving the phone and premium touch.

    Cameras

In the photography department, the OPPO Reno 10 shines brightly. Its triple-camera setup, including a 64 MP wide lens, 32 MP telephoto lens, and an 8 MP ultrawide lens, captures detailed and vivid photos. The Samsung Galaxy A54, with its 50 MP wide lens, 12 MP ultrawide lens, and 5 MP macro lens, also captures excellent shots, but the Reno 10’s superior telephoto capabilities give it an advantage, especially in zoomed-in photography. The Reno 10 also has an amazing portrait mode. This mode perfectly blurs the background for dramatic shots.

    Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno 10 is powered by the Mediatek MT6877V Dimensity 7050 chipset and 8 GB of RAM, ensuring swift app launches and seamless multitasking. Its 5000 mAh battery, coupled with 67W wired charging, guarantees long-lasting usage and rapid replenishment. The Samsung Galaxy A54, equipped with the Exynos 1380 chipset and varying RAM options, delivers decent performance and features a 5000 mAh battery with 25W wired charging.

While both phones offer good battery life, the Reno 10’s faster charging capability gives it an upper hand for users who are always on the go. The phone can be charged fully from 0% in less than 45 minutes which is faster than the over 1 hour you need to fully charge the Galaxy A54.

    Software

The OPPO Reno 10 runs on Android 13 with ColorOS 13.1, offering a clean and intuitive user interface. Its software is optimized for efficiency and includes a variety of customization options. The Samsung Galaxy A54 runs on Android 13 with One UI 5.1, providing a feature-rich experience and an array of Samsung-exclusive apps. Both phones offer a range of software features, catering to different user preferences. The one you choose depends on your preference as you cannot go wrong with either.

    Summary

In this battle, the OPPO Reno 10 emerges as the winner, offering a winning combination of premium design, outstanding camera capabilities, a vibrant display, fast performance, and rapid charging technology. While the Samsung Galaxy A54 is a strong competitor, the Reno 10’s superior features and innovative design make it a top choice for users seeking a premium smartphone experience. Whether you’re a photography enthusiast, a multitasker, or just a casual user, the OPPO Reno 10 stands tall as a worthy investment.
