In 2023, our world stands firmly rooted in technology, where advancements in Information and Computer Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, biotechnology, and machine learning are driving social and economic progress. Within this transformative landscape, Black entrepreneurs are leading the charge, infusing innovation with a visionary outlook, shaping a future defined by their groundbreaking inventions.

The Global Black Impact Summit (GBIS) 2023, scheduled for November 30 to December 1 in Dubai, serves as a pivotal platform. It celebrates the invaluable contributions of Black entrepreneurs in the tech industry while illuminating the pathways available for others to join this revolutionary sector. GBIS 2023 is dedicated to showcasing the innovative spirit and game-changing accomplishments of Black tech entrepreneurs who aren’t just adapting to the technology-driven evolution but actively propelling it forward with visionary concepts and revolutionary solutions.

Pioneers in the Global Tech Arena

In recent years, the world has come to acknowledge the extraordinary achievements and profound influence of these entrepreneurs in the global tech landscape. Figures like Mark Dean have shaped the industry significantly with innovations like color PC monitors, plug-and-play peripherals, and the first gigahertz chip. Similarly, Ime Archibong, rising through the ranks at Meta, played a pivotal role in guiding Meta’s innovations from concept to launch, making him a key player in the tech giant.

In the mobile industry, Nokwethu Khojane from South Africa founded Lakheni, a venture that creatively unites low-income households into buying groups, leveraging mobile technology to enhance economic efficiency and affordability. These examples represent just a glimpse of the many innovators reshaping the global tech industry. Despite facing challenges like limited access to capital and bias, Black entrepreneurs have thrived, demonstrating determination, resilience, and innovative thinking. Many have turned to alternative funding sources such as crowdfunding and angel investors and have become advocates for diversity in tech.

Future Trends and Opportunities for #BlackExcellence in Tech

For Black entrepreneurs, students, and investors entering the global tech industry, opportunities abound and are continually expanding. Advancements in AI and Machine Learning offer avenues to enhance performance and equity, with pioneers like Renée Cummings, Founder and CEO of Urban AI, leading research on AI’s impact on urban communities. Sustainable tech is another promising field, with startups dedicated to eco-friendly solutions, renewable energy, and green infrastructure, all contributing to a sustainable future. Entrepreneurs like Monique Ntumngia, Founder of Green Girls Organization in Cameroon, are driving sustainable development by training women and girls in generating sustainable energy with AI’s help.

In blockchain and cryptocurrency, entrepreneurs are exploring applications that create financial opportunities and broader access, particularly for underserved communities. Emmanuel Udotong, a Web3 founder and consultant, is using digital technology to advance opportunities for underrepresented individuals globally. Through his company Ancient Warriors, he is building a blockchain security firm to facilitate the safe onboarding of the next generation of crypto users.

GBIS 2023: A Beacon of Progress and Inclusivity

In the realm of technology, GBIS 2023 stands as a symbol of progress and inclusivity. Beyond celebrating the remarkable achievements of Black entrepreneurs, this summit contributes significantly to a more diverse, dynamic, and inclusive future for the tech field. As the tech industry continues its transformative journey, GBIS serves as a catalyst, propelling us toward a future where innovation knows no bounds.
