Safaricom has joined forces with Signs Media to introduce the assistALL mini app within the M-PESA App. This collaboration marks a significant step in empowering Kenyans with hearing impairments by providing them with on-demand sign language interpretation services. The assistALL Mini App aims to eradicate communication barriers and ensure equal access to opportunities for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The assistALL Mini App seamlessly integrates sign language interpretation services into the widely-used M-PESA App. This integration will enable individuals with hearing impairments to navigate the digital landscape effortlessly, breaking down the obstacles that hindered their participation in various social and economic activities.
Safaricom’s CEO, Peter Ndegwa, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering inclusivity through technology. He stated, “At Safaricom, we believe in the power of technology to break down barriers and drive inclusion and accessibility. This partnership is a milestone in our mission to make technology more accessible for everyone and contribute to a more inclusive society.” By integrating assistALL into the M-PESA App, Safaricom is ensuring that the benefits of digital services are available to all, regardless of their abilities.
Additionally, the partnership will create economic opportunities for registered sign language interpreters. Through the assistALL Mini App, interpreters can offer their services, facilitating economic empowerment and job creation within the deaf community.
The assistALL mini app will cater to a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, judicial facilities, government services, finance, and transport. This diversity ensures that individuals with hearing impairments have access to critical services, making their daily lives more manageable and improving their overall quality of life.
