Safaricom introduced the MyCounty app earlier this year to help  digitize county services. The app first went live in partnership with Makueni County back in April followed by Elgeyo Marakwet a few weeks later.

The app’s aim is to provide a single, citizen access channel. Some of its services include payment for county services, revenue management systems, a citizen reporting and engagement tool, and solutions around agriculture, health, utility bills, and SME programs. You can access the MyCounty through a USSD code or through the M-Pesa App on both Android and iOS. Having a central location to pay for county services saves residents the headache of dealing with the mess of navigating through the hurdles themselves.

Users can select their county of residence, which enables them to be linked to the specific county’s services for processing of requests. To add to this, residents of a county can also access services from other counties, which will enable payment of parking fees and other common fees.

At the moment, the counties that have signed up for MyCounty include Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Samburu, Bomet, Narok, Kitui, Busia, Kilifi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kajiado. Safaricom’s aim is to sign up all 47 counties in Kenya.

At the conference, an MOU between Safaricom and the Council of Governors was also signed. This highlighted some of the different areas of collaboration including establishment of an IT security and related cyber security guidelines, Own Source revenue, strengthen knowledge management through Maarifa Centre, CSR activities, capacity building among other areas of collaboration.
