The OPPO Find N2 Flip Review: Should You Buy It?

OPPO Find N2 Flip review

OPPO Find N2 Flip review

Samsung is currently the leader in the Foldable and Flip smartphone market. The company has had a number of Foldable smartphones for a few years but other phone manufacturers want a share of that pie. OPPO is one such manufacturer and its first flip phone is the OPPO Find N2 Flip. This phone was launched in Kenya a few weeks back and you can get it in Kenya for around Ksh 130,000. This is cheaper than what the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from Samsung is currently retailing for. At this price, you do have a number of options to choose from including some of the latest premium phones from most manufacturers.

OPPO has made a bold move into the world of flip phones with the launch of the OPPO Find N2 Flip. This device brings a nostalgic form factor combined with modern technology. I had a chance to use the Find N2 Flip for a little over a week and in this post I will be sharing my experience and help you decide if this phone is worth your money.

Foldable Form Factor

The first thing that attracts you to the OPPO Find N2 Flip is its foldable form factor. When opened, the phone looks and feels like a normal smartphone but its size shrinks significantly when folded. A compact phone is easier to carry around and in most cases people may not be sure what you are carrying unless you tell them. When folded, the Find N2 Flip has no visible screen gap unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The cover display of the Find N2 Flip is also much bigger than what we get on the Z Flip 4. A bigger display is always better if well utilized but unfortunately the software does not necessarily take advantage of this display that much. The cover display can show you your notifications, used when taking photos, control music when the phone is folded among other features. These are all good but could have been accomplished with a smaller display. I feel like OPPO could have done a better job customizing the software to take advantage of this big display.

OPPO Find N2 Flip

Unfolding the phone is easy and can be done with one hand. However, I felt that the phone was not sturdy enough for this action. It feels a bit weak and I was never confident opening it with just one hand. Having used the Galaxy Z Flip 4 before, the Samsung felt sturdy and I was comfortable unfolding the phone with just one hand.

When unfolded, the Find N2 Flip has a beautiful 6.8 inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. This display is really good and gets bright enough to use outdoors.

Camera Capabilities

The OPPO Find N2 Flip captures very good photos thanks to the dual-camera setup featuring a 50MP primary lens and 8MP ultrawide lens aided by the powerful MariSilicon X imaging chip. The selfie camera, nestled within the folding display, features a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 sensor.

In well-lit conditions, the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s main camera performs exceptionally well, capturing stunning photos with ample detail, a decent dynamic range, and sharpness in close-up shots. The colors appear accurate and true to life. In low-light settings, the main camera continues to impress, delivering lively shots with vivid colors and well-exposed subjects. Even when zoomed in, the details remain fairly intact. In extremely dim conditions, the Night mode fails to produce satisfactory outcomes.

Moving on to the selfie camera, it excels in capturing splendid shots during daylight hours, and the Portrait mode works wonders, ensuring picture-perfect results. In low-light conditions, the selfies are still decent.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s video recording capabilities extend to 4K resolution at 30fps, delivering excellent quality and stabilization during daylight shooting. However, low-light videos might appear slightly processed, with reduced details and some grain.

Powerful Performance

Under the hood, the OPPO Find N2 Flip is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset, offering seamless multitasking and excellent overall performance. It comes with 8GB paired with internal storage options of 256GB. This phone has handled everything with ease as expected on a phone at its price range. I did use it as my primary phone during the review period and the experience was good. I did manage to play some games and the experience was good too. The Dimensity 9000+ processor is capable and reliable. it never let me down even once and I was impressed. This is perfect for heavy users who demand the best performance from their smartphones.

The phone runs on Android 13 with ColorOS 13 skin. If you have used any OPPO phone before, you will fell right at home with this. ColorOS does not have a steep learning curve and is easy to figure it out. The phone also supports 5G connectivity for those who need ultrafast data speeds.

Long-lasting Battery

When I first got the OPPO Find N2 Flip, I was not really impressed with the 4300 mAh battery. I know with most Flip phones the battery is never that big and when I used the Galaxy Z Flip 4, I could not use the phone for the whole day on a single charge. Using the Find N2 Flip, I got it to last an entire day on a single charge which is better than what the Galaxy Z Flip 4 offered. I got a little over 5 hours of screen on time when using it for most day to day tasks including phone calls, WhatsApp, social media and a bit of YouTube.

The phone supports 44W SuperVOOC charging which is not that impressive in my opinion. A phone at this price should support at least 68W charging. With 44W charging speeds, I could fully charge from 0% in a little over an hour.

Verdict

The OPPO Find N2 Flip is an exciting addition to the smartphone market, offering a unique flip design combined with cutting-edge technology. Its powerful performance, advanced camera capabilities, and 5G connectivity make it a very good choice. The phone is reliable and stands out anytime you use it out in public. However, 44W charging is not that impressive.

I also feel like the software does not take advantage of the cover display that much. The cover display is very big and there are no apps, except the camera, that fully take advantage of this. OPPO can easily fix this with a software update as cover display is one of the appealing features of a flip phone. If you’re looking for a distinct smartphone experience and willing to invest in the latest technology, the OPPO Find N2 Flip might just be the device for you.
