Tecno has today launched it’s first foldable smartphone in Kenya. The Tecno Phantom V Fold is currently available on pre-order through select Safaricom shops and other smartphone retailers across the country.

Interestingly, Tecno has not revealed how much the phone will cost but has only mentioned that those interested in pre-ordering will be required to pay ksh 5,000. This is an odd move and might actually lead to low pre-order numbers. Before committing to buying a phone, you need to know how much it costs first.

The price aside, those who pre-order can get a free smartwatch among other goodies. The pre-order period is on and runs all the way to 17th April.

This being the first foldable smartphone from Tecno, I am curious to see how it performs on the market. The foldable market has been dominated by Samsung for as long as it has existed. The foldable smartphone market is expected to grow to 48 million units by 2027 so we should see more players in that segment in the coming months.

    Tecno Phantom V Fold Specifications

Tecno is very vocal about the Phantom V Fold being the first to have dual 5G support. This is quite an achievement but we still do not have widespread 5G coverage in Kenya so it might not be a big selling point. That said, this is still a big achievement.

The Phantom V Fold also comes with 12GB Of RAM as standard. This can be expanded with up to 9GB of virtual RAM for a total of 21 GB of RAM.

Some of the other key specifications of the Phantom V Fold include:

    • 7.85-inch 2000 x 2296 pixels
    • MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor
    • Mali-G710 MC10
    • 12 GB RAM
    • 256/512 GB Storage
    • Triple-rear cameras: 50MP + 50MP + 13MP
    • 16MP, 32MP front camera
    • HIOS 13 Fold (based on Android 13)
    • 5000mAh battery

I will update you more on the this phone including it’s price as soon as I have that information.

Tecno Phantom V Fold Price in Kenya
