If you are a prepay customer using Safaricom, you have had an easier option when it comes to sharing (Sambaza) data with other customers. For Safaricom Postpay subscribers, this has not been possible. That has not been ideal considering that some Postpay customers get so much data that they do not end up using by the end of the month. This data does not roll over so at the start of a new month, they can’t continue using it.
With some data going to waste, it makes sense for Safaricom to have an option for postpay customers to share data with other customers. This option is not like the traditional Sambaza option but you rather share the data with a customer and are able to track data usage.
You can only share data by first accessing the online portal on Safaricom’s website, no option to do the same via the app or USSD.
How to share Postpay data on Safaricom
- Go to the online portal – https://www.safaricom.com/account/data-sharing. You can only access this through your mobile browser.

- Click on ‘Start Sharing’
- You will see the data that you can share and will be able to add the person you want to share the data with.
Note: You cannot share Tunukiwa, Bonus, Promotional Daily data or Blaze Bundles.
- Add the number of the person you want to share data with and the data amount to share.
