How To Update Your Safaricom, Telkom and Airtel SIM Card details Online

The Communication Authority has extended the deadline for SIM card re-registration to October 15th. This is 6 months from now and that means that you have more than enough time to have your details updated with the service provider you are using.

Before the last-minute rush to have the details updated, the only network provider that was compliant was JTL whose subscribers did not have to update any details. This is because the network provider captures all the required details when a new subscriber gets their SIM card for the first time.

During the last few weeks of this process, both Airtel and Telkom made it possible for subscribers to complete the re-registration process online. This made the process much easier for subscribers who could not get time or just wanted the convenience of completing the process online.

Safaricom, the biggest network provider by user base, did not seem bothered and still required its customers to physically go to its agents to complete the process. This was the case all through until today when it was supposed to be the last day for subscribers to complete the re-registration. Well, the Communication Authority might have seen the chaos that the biggest telco created and decided to extend the deadline to October.

For those who are yet to complete the re-registration, you can now complete the process online for all the network providers by following the following processes.

Before you start the process, it is a good idea to see if the service provider you are using has all your details or not. You can do so by dialing:

*106# to see the numbers registered to your ID

Knowing the numbers, you can now head over to the specific network provider’s name to update your details.

I have had difficulty completing the process on Safaricom as half the time I could not get the OTP, and at times the process failed to proceed to show me the number registered to me. I managed to get to the ID uploading stage but I got an error that indicated that the ID uploaded was not clear. I hope Safaricom will be able to fix these issues in the coming days.
