HMD Global has today announced the availability of its latest tablet, the Nokia T20, in Kenya. This tablet was unveiled back in October has officially launched in Kenya just before the holiday season begins.

The Nokia T20 comes with a very good design, bigger display and as expected, stock Android with guarantee of regular security and OS updates. This is by far the only tablet to officially launch in Kenya this year as most of the others just quietly make their way to store shelves with very little fanfare.

The tablet market saw demand rise last year during the pandemic and manufacturers are really capitalizing on this. We have even seen tablets from Realme launch even though they have not made their way to Kenya. Launching affordable tablets represents a shift in this sector as for the past few years, manufacturers have previously  launched premium and slightly more expensive tablets.

With HMD Global coming to the market, the dominance of brands such as Samsung in the Android tablet space is threatened a bit.

Gopher Ogembo, Senior Business Manager Kenya & East Africa HMD Global revealed: “We pride ourselves on always listening and responding to people’s wishes. Over the past year, we noticed the increase in hybrid working and online learning, as well as the growing use of social media, video calling platforms and streaming services-leading to an increase in the appetite for tablets, which grew on impressive 53% in 01 from 2020 to 2021 So, we created HMD Global’s first-ever Nokia tablet to address people’s changing needs and their desire for versatile technology and features. Designed for work, learning and play, our Nokia 120 offers the classic qualities people have come to love and expect from our smartphones, in a brand-new format.”

    Nokia T20 Tablet specifications

The Nokia T20 comes with a 10.4-inch 2K display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It has thick bezels but not too bad to make the viewing experience bad. The tablet is powered by a Unisoc Tiger T610 processor that has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. If this space is not enough for you, you can expand it to 512GB using a microSD Card.

The rear camera is an 8MP one while the front facing one is a 5MP one. This should be enough for video calls as the quality you get is decently good.

Providing all the juice is an 8,200 mAh battery that is quite huge and should keep you going for a number of days. HMD says this battery should last for up to 15 hours with basic web browsing.

Nokia T20 Tablet Price in Kenya

The Nokia T20 will be available in Kenya as from tomorrow and will be available for Ksh 29,700. This will be the price for the 4GB variant with 64GB of internal storage space. It will be available in blue colourway.
