Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a plan on how the social media giant will be helping get more people vaccinated. Zuckerberg said they’ve helped connect over 2 billion people to authoritative COVID-19 information in a Facebook post.

They are also expanding to help people get useful information about the vaccine as it continues to roll out in more countries. Facebook plans to help “bring 50 million people one step closer to getting vaccinated”.

The platform will unveil a way for people to know where and when to get a COVID-19 vaccine starting in the U.S. Eventually, Facebook will roll out the same information to more countries depending on vaccine availability plans in those territories.

Facebook will also help health authorities and governments to get people registered for vaccinations through official WhatsApp chatbots on COVID-19.

Another thing is expanding the COVID-19 Information Center, which provides users with the latest information about the pandemic from reputable sources, local health ministries, and the World Health Organization, to Instagram.

The company is also planning to start labelling COVID-19 vaccine-related posts on Instagram and Facebook to fight misinformation.

Just like with the pandemic, the company has been criticized for not doing enough to crack down on vaccine misinformation on its platforms. This time around, Facebook will label all posts related to the vaccine with links that specifically address of safety of the COVID-19 vaccines from the World Health Organization.

“We will also add an additional screen when someone goes to share a post on Facebook and Instagram with an informational COVID-19 vaccine label,” the company says. It plans to use labels and warning screens to encourage users to make informed decisions about what they share.
