Google is rolling out a new update to Android TV. The new update includes a revamped User Interface, one which brings Android TV UI close to Google TV which was announced last year.

The new UI includes a couple of changes – like the Apps section is now atop your display, alongside a new Discover tab – and content is now taking more screen space. Menus have been moved to the top; Home, Discover, and Apps tabs can now be found on the upper side(see featured image).

Relative to the current UI, Android TV’s icons and content tiles are more compact. The new Discover tab includes personalized recommendations from your different streaming apps, depending on your viewing history and titles trending on Google Search. It’s similar to Google TV’s “For You” tab but with a different name.

The revamped UI has begun rolling out starting in the US and heading to Australia, Canada, Germany, and France. Users from other countries should expect to receive the update in a few weeks to come.

Google TV

Last year, Google rolled out Google TV, its nascent User Interface built on top of Android TV and first available via the 2020 Chromecast.

Google TV’s main focus was making it easy to find content on your TV, a vital feature when it’s obvious that everyone needs accounts with multiple platforms to satisfy their entertainment needs.

That said, Google TV will eventually replace the current Android TV UI installed on some TVs. Furthermore, it will come pre-installed on new TVs starting this year, the company said in 2020.

However, at the time, it also said some of the new features introduced in Google TV would be added on Android TV. So this is more of Google keeping its promises although it will help bridge the gap between the two UIs for streaming boxes and TVs that won’t be fully upgraded to the new Google TV Ui.
