The realme C15 is the latest smartphone by the company to launch in Kenya. The company has unveiled this phone which will be available in stores as from next week on Monday. This will be officially the fourth smartphone from realme to launch in Kenya.

The realme C15 should be available in stores for around Ksh 17,000. The official price has not yet been revealed by the company but some online retailers including Masoko have the product listed for that price. The official retail price should not be far off from this and I will update this post with those details once I have them.

Ever since realme entered the Kenya market, the company has been positioning its devices competitively in different price segments with the most expensive one being the realme 6 that is available in the country for around Ksh 29,000. I have reviewed the realme 6 and loved it and if interested you can read more about it here.

With the realme C15, the company is targeting a different segment as you can tell from its price. This is a very lucrative segment as a good number of Kenyans purchase devices within this price and if well marketed, the realme C15 can outshine competing devices from Huawei, Xiaomi, Tecno and Infinix.

Before we get into the unboxing, let us first have a look at the realme C15 specifications.

    • Display: 6.5-inch; 720 x 1560 pixels
    • Chipset: MediaTek Helio G35
    • RAM: 3/4GB RAM
    • Storage: 32/64 GB
    • Rear cameras: 13MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP
    • Front camera: 8MP
    • Battery: 6000mAh
    • One of the key highlights of this phone is the 6,000 mAh battery it comes with.

    What’s in the box?

This is what you should expect to get in the box:

    • Wall Adapter for charging
    • Silicone Case
    • Quick guide and Warranty card

    First Impressions

Getting the realme C15 out of the box for the first time, I noticed it is bulky and slightly heavy. It is not uncomfortably heavy but it is noticeably so and this might be because of the huge battery it comes with.

The display it comes with is a 6.5 inch one with a 720p resolution. For the few minutes I have spent with the phone, this display looks good with colors on the warmer tone to it. There is a notch cut-out at the top of the display to house the front-facing camera. The notch does not take that much space and I have gotten used to it being there already. A screen protector comes fitted on this display so you will not have to worry about doing that yourself.

For the ports and buttons, we get the power and volume keys on the right of the phone. They are within easy reach when holding the phone. The headphone jack, microphone, speaker grilled and Micro USB ports are all the bottom.

At the back of the phone is the fingerprint scanner and the four camera sensors as well as the LED flash. For the back cameras, we are looking at a 13MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP combination. From the few shots I have taken, it has handled well but I will be testing it out and sharing my experiences with it in the full review.

The realme C15 is powered by the Helio G35 processor and the review unit I have comes with 4GB of RAM. There is a 3GB RAM variant on the market too. Performance has been great as the phone is still new and I have not pushed it to its limits yet.

    Initial Thoughts

I am excited to test out the realme C15 and see what it has to offer. I have been using the realme 6 before this and I am curious to see what it has to offer compared to the 6 in terms of performance and even the software experience.

So far, the experience has been good, the build quality of the phone feels good. The plastic back cover is not smooth all the way and has some textured feel to it that should help with grip. Even with its weight, the phone is not uncomfortable to carry around. I can still use it with one hand with no issues.

This phone comes with Android 10 with realme UI on top. Realme has not veered far off from the almost pure version of Android we see on devices from Nokia and Google Pixel devices. It is a clean interface that looks tame and easy to use and understand. The pre-installed apps the phone comes with can be annoying and I hope the company fixes that. They can install popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook etc but not some of the others including some from ecommerce sites.

I will be using the phone for the next few days and share my full thoughts on it then.
