During its Time Flies event, American tech giant, Apple, unveiled new hardware devices, excluding the iPhone 12 series, and a couple of new services.

Surprisingly, Apple, for the first time since 2018, also revealed their sales numbers of the iPad. Speaking at the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company had sold over 500 million iPads in the last decade.

The Curpetino-based company had previously stated it won’t reveal sales numbers of of iPhones, iPads, and Macs in earnings reports.

According to the research firm, Canalys, Apple is the world’s top-selling tablet maker currently with over 14 million units shipped in Q2, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total.

Samsung and Huawei trails behind but with individual shipments barely half of what Apple is doing.

Apple also unveiled two new iPad models.

The first model is an iPad Air with a larger 10.9-inch display, an identical 12MP rear camera as the iPad Pro, an integrated Touch ID sensor in the top button, stereo speakers and powered by the potent A14 Bionic chipset. It also includes a USB-C port.

The iPad Air starts at $599 and is available in five colours.

Apple also announced the eighth-generation iPad with a massive performance leap. The entry iPad now includes an A12 Bionic chip and goes for $329.

The A12 Bionic chipset, according to Apple, makes the iPad two times more potent than the top-selling Windows laptop, up to three times faster than the top-selling Android tablet and up to six times faster than the top-selling Chromebook. No specifics were provided, however.
